ConX feature

Your prescribing funding is meant to pay for your EPS system. Keep more of it.

From autumn 2026, independent prescribing joins the CPCF as an extension of Pharmacy First and the Pharmacy Contraception Service. To take part, you will need an NHS-assured EPS system. ConX EPS is being built to be exactly that, inside the platform your team already uses, and priced to leave as much of your infrastructure funding as possible in your business.

ConX EPS is progressing through NHS EPS assurance now. Register your interest and we will keep you updated, including on early access.

About

What is ConX EPS?

The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) replaces the paper FP10 with a digitally signed prescription sent securely through the NHS Spine.

From autumn 2026, an NHS-assured EPS system will become a key part of delivering and claiming for NHS prescribing services.

ConX EPS brings that functionality directly into ConX. Your independent prescriber can complete the consultation, issue a prescription and send it electronically, all without leaving the platform your team already uses.

The consultation record, prescription and audit trail remain connected within a single system and governance framework, helping reduce administration and improve continuity of care.

In practice, the patient consults with your prescriber and, where they choose to, has their medicine dispensed by your pharmacy. One episode of care. One patient record. One connected team, with patient choice maintained throughout.

Benefits

Built for the way prescribing will actually work

More of your funding stays with you

More of your funding stays with you

Prescribing comes with a £500 set-up payment and £525 a month, and that funding is meant to cover your EPS system. We are building ConX EPS to take as little of it as possible, so it supports your service rather than your software bill.

One system, not another login

One system, not another login

EPS sits inside ConX alongside consultations, clinical records, PGDs and NHS claims. No second platform, no duplicate patient entry, no new supplier relationship to manage.

Continuity from consultation to counter

Continuity from consultation to counter

Your prescriber consults, prescribes and, where the patient chooses, your team dispenses. The whole episode is handled in one place, without sending the patient elsewhere to complete it.

Governance built in, not bolted on

Governance built in, not bolted on

NHS England's professional assurance framework sets clear expectations of pharmacy owners delivering prescribing services. ConX is designed around clinical governance, with structured records, prescribing audit trails and consistent documentation, so meeting those expectations is part of the workflow.

How it works

From consultation to dispensed medicine

Step 1

Consult

Your independent prescriber runs the consultation in ConX, within the Pharmacy First or contraception pathway, with the clinical record captured as they go.

Step 2

Prescribe

Medication is selected from a dm+d-linked formulary, with safety prompts built into the workflow.

Step 3

Sign

The prescription is signed electronically using the prescriber's smartcard credentials.

Step 4

Send

It is transmitted securely via the NHS Spine, in line with the patient's choice of dispensing pharmacy.

Step 5

Dispense, record and claim

Your team dispenses, and the record stays connected to the episode in ConX for governance, audit and claiming.

Who it's for

Built for every prescribing pharmacy

Independent pharmacies

Independent pharmacies

Deliver the new prescribing pathways without adding another system, another supplier or another subscription that eats into funding meant to support the service.

Pharmacy groups and chains

Pharmacy groups and chains

One prescribing workflow across every branch, with consistent records, consistent governance and clear oversight of prescribing activity group-wide.

What is changing

Independent Prescribing is set to become a funded community pharmacy service.

The opportunity isn't just the funding itself. It's having the infrastructure in place to identify patients, deliver services and maximise the revenue opportunity without adding more disconnected systems.

£500

One-off

Set-up payment, made once you have signed up to provide the relevant services and have a confirmed go-live date with an NHS-assured EPS IT system.

£525

A month

Ongoing infrastructure payment for pharmacies delivering prescribing.

Plus fees

Per consultation

Prescribing-only consultations won't just generate service income. They'll also count towards your Pharmacy First activity targets, helping pharmacies qualify for the £500 and £1,000 monthly threshold payments.

Community Pharmacy England puts it plainly: DHSC and NHS England expect the cost of the EPS system to be covered by the £500 set-up payment and the £525 monthly infrastructure payment.

So the real question is not whether you can afford an EPS system. It is how much of that funding your provider takes, and how much stays in your pharmacy.

Community Pharmacy England has been clear that pharmacy owners will need to assess whether Independent Prescribing makes commercial sense once workload, governance, infrastructure and operating costs are taken into account. We think that's a fair challenge.

If funding is tight, every penny matters. That's why we're building ConX EPS differently. By reducing reliance on expensive standalone systems, we're helping pharmacies keep more of their funding where it belongs: in the business.

The scope of pharmacy prescribing from autumn 2026

Under the CPCF arrangements, community pharmacist prescribers will be able to:

Prescribe within the existing pathways

Within the existing Pharmacy First clinical pathways and the Pharmacy Contraception Service.

Deliver up to five new prescribing-only Pharmacy First pathways

Options under consideration include bacterial conjunctivitis, allergic conjunctivitis, oral thrush, skin infections and respiratory tract infections, each subject to approval by a clinical reference group before rollout. Consultations under the new pathways count towards your monthly clinical pathways minimum activity requirement.

Prescribe an alternative item where needed

To meet a patient's needs, for example during a supply chain issue, where arrangements are in place with the original prescriber.

Distance selling pharmacies delivering Pharmacy First and PCS remotely can prescribe within the scope of those services. Whether the new pathways suit remote consultation is being considered as they are developed.

Clinical governance

Prescribing brings new expectations. We build for them.

In July 2026, NHS England published a professional assurance framework for NHS community pharmacy clinical services and commissioning guidance for prescribing-based services. Both set out expectations of pharmacy owners, and CPE has noted that some elements will not be straightforward to implement. This is where a platform built around clinical governance earns its place. ConX gives you structured consultation records, prescribing audit trails, consistent documentation across your team and records that stand up at inspection, because governance is designed into the workflow rather than added afterwards.
